Traurig aber wahr-das wohl innovativste TT-Forum aka Turntableradio wird in absehbarer Zeit beendet (anbei das Originalstatement von Mr.Trick via e-mail-news).
Bleibt die Frage, was mit Turntablism ausserhalb der Battles geschehen wird...Letzten Endes bleibt wohl das Thema Musikalität vs. Turntablism bis auf einige wenige Ausnahmen bestehen.Von aussen betrachtet ist das ganze wohl noch zu wenig für den breiteren Musikgeschmack greifbar und einfach noch zu "Szenenintern", besonders in Sachen Hörgewohnheit...
Trotz allem: Alles entwickelt sich eben und zur Zeit besonders in Richtung greifbarere, musikalischere Kompositionen; letzten Endes bleibt`s also weiterhin spannend, wohin DIESER GANZE QUATSCH MIT DEN OLLEN PLATTENSPIELERN NOCH SO HINFÜHRT!

Its with a degree of sadness that I can announce
that Turntable Radio will stop at show 70. In its
place will come the Rhythm Incursions show,
stepping up to a weekly schedule.
The main reason for retiring the show is that I
feel that it no longer represents the tablist
scene in the right manner. When the show began,
people were still trying to prove the validity of
the turntable as a musical instrument. I feel
that's now been proven, and tablism as an artform
has to take a step forward because of it - namely
to be judged alongside any other valid musical
artform. It seems counter-productive to me to
ghetto turntable/scratch music off into its own
show now: its time for it to stand up on its own
two feet alongside other music, and this is where
the Rhythm Incursions show comes in.
I also feel, however, that the artform itself has
slowed in recent times, with less people making
music and even less actually releasing it. This
slowdown made it harder and harder to produce
shows, making the whole experience one that I was
becoming less and less happy with. The final straw
came when Rhythm Incursions started, and I
realised just how much amazing music is out there
waiting to be played.
However, I don't think people should be negative
about this change. Quite the oppostite: I think
this is a positive and natural step forward.
Turntable Radio was about turntablism and
scratching; Rhythm Incursions is about music.
I'd like to end by thanking a few people, whose
help contributed to making Turntable Radio what it
was:
- Billy Jam @ Hip Hop Slam, for showing support
from the get-go, for lending fine no-bullshit
advice and for generally exhibiting the kind of
punk attitude we could all learn a lot from;
- Christie Z Pabon, who helped behind the scenes
to hook me up with contacts and music whenever she
could;
- Sparky T, for helping make the "Know Your Roots"
specials;
- the Truesicians, for always showing support and
encouragement, something sadly not in abundance
here in the UK, and also for guest-presenting a
very entertaining show;
- Noisy Stylus, who stepped up to present a show
and did a fantastic job
- Dibbs and Crush Whore, for fixing me up a dope
interview and also for showing the kind of spirit
and attitude that made me co-found Needlework
Records;
- D-Styles and Shortkut, who appeared on show #2,
and Dave in particular for fixing me up with
exclusive ish to play and crazy amounts of signed
stickers etc.
... and last but never least all those DJs who
contributed to the show and all of you who tuned
in, making the show the most popular on Resonance
at its peak. I only hope that for the most part
you enjoyed what you heard.
With any luck a good number of you will continue
to listen to the Rhythm Incursions show, and any
people making music are still welcome to hit me up
with any material they have. If that shit is good,
I'll play it. This website and the audio archive
will remain online indefinitely. Also keep an eye
out for a new Rhythm Incursions site which will go
online soon.
Here's to positive changes in 2004!
