"Known for its darkness, heavy bass and fast flows, Memphis Rap originated in the early nineties with the likes of DJ Squeeky, Al Kapone, and early Three 6 Mafia. Memphis Rap was crucial in the Horrorcore movement, as the genre's dark, sinister sound was perfectly suited for the style's frightening lyrics. Perhaps most notably, it was Memphis Rap, along with Miami Bass, that laid the groundwork for Crunk. What's more, Memphis Rap was the first style of rap to feature true tongue twisting.

In contrast to most styles of southern rap, Memphis Rap is remarkably down-tempo and decidedly not party-oriented. Memphis Rap rarely, if ever, samples old R&B or Rock songs, a practice that has become commonplace in southern rap. Sampling is confined mostly to movie sound-bites. Many rappers coming out of Memphis today have abandoned Memphis Rap and fit stylistically with the majority of Southern Rap (i.e. Three 6 Mafia, Eightball & M.J.G.)."
 
ja ich find aber bis auf still hallucinatin nix davon besonders toll! sein solo tape bleibt ungeschlagen
auf dne neuen releases sind immer ein paar gute tracks aber auch viel füll material ... kommt ja mittlerweile auch ware am fließband von den jungs! wenn man bei dne releases kaum noch mitkommt ist irgendwann die luft raus
aber wie gesgat ein paar tracks kann man immer gut feiern! auf new jack city hab ich getcha touched un psycho sehr gemocht!!!

memphis rap nach 2000 hat aber sehr nachgelassen bzw. ging der soudn langsam verloren, es kamen noch ein paar gute sachen aber das meiste klang verwässert oder komplett wack
davor gabs eigentlich nix besseres
ich hör jeden tag irgendein tape scheiß und ein größrer teil meiner sammlung besteht aus memphis mucke

ne kleine hoffnugn für mich ist derzeit dj zirk
von ihm kamen in letzter zeit ein zwei coole tracks! demnächst soll wohl ein neues 2 thick album kommen, das könnt echt was werden!

Nach Texas ist Tennessee, zumindest für mich, DER Staat was Southern Rap anbelangt. Bin den ganzen Tape Addicts auf jeden Fall sehr dankbar dafür, dass sie so viele Undergroundtapes gerippt und auf youtube hochgeladen haben.

ich kann mit dem üblichen, düsteren memphis sound weniger anfangen... ich mag eher die smoothen g-funk sachen die aus memphis kamen.

am anfang komtm noch bud keeps me fiendin mit mac kyle, der track läuft auf dem tape vorher und passt gut dazu darum hab ich ihn mit reinegschnitten, aber hier gehts mir um den mix danach
