ok, nach einem durchgang: 'ne komplett runde sache ist das für mich auch auf keinen fall, aber alles in allem kann sichs gut geben.
thematisch find ichs ehrlich gesagt etwas merkwürdig^ vor allem nachdem ich jetzt noch etwas kontext gelesen hab:

The Ghanaian Australian artist born Kofi Owusu-Ansah’s second album is a surreal concept album about a protagonist—the Roach—fighting for his life in a kind of post-apocalyptic world overrun with constant physical and metaphysical threats. The antagonist, God, stops at nothing to try and bring the Roach down, to destroy him both inside and out. “The Roach character is a metaphor for we as humans,” he says, “and the God character is a metaphor for all these huge uncontrollable forces around us, natural and man-made, these systems we've built around us that were supposed to make our lives better. But at some point, we started feeling like we've been caged by them and they’ve slipped out of our control.”
Owusu-Ansah’s story lays out three philosophical concepts that the Roach journeys through: nihilism, existentialism and, ultimately, absurdism, the latter of which was inspired in part by the Samuel Beckett play Waiting for Godot and Franz Kafka’s Metamorphosis. The title and its character were inspired by Berserk, a legendary manga series by Kentaro Miura which features a character who “just gets dealt the worst hand in life,” he explains. “He has to fight through these forces so unimaginably larger than himself, to the point where it can't even be called a fight. The other characters call him a struggler.”
hab beim titel schon an berserk gedacht, aber schön zu sehen, dass es wirklich davon inspiriert ist.
zufälligerweise hab ich vor ein paar monaten berserk angefangen zu lesen und finds großartig (bin bei chapter 26)
wie auch immer: find dieses thematische hin- und her zwischen nihilismus/absurdismus und existentialismus bisschen weird, es wechselt halt einfach alle 2 tracks. hoffnungslos, man ist am tiefpunkt, aber plötzlich fällt einem ein "hey, wir leben im hier und jetzt. ist doch geil und egal, dass alles scheiße ist und ob wir mit 23 drauf gehen". keine ahnung, vor allem jetzt da ich weiß, dass es von berserk inspiriert ist... da hätte es ruhig 'n thematischer 80/20 split anstelle von 50/50 sein dürfen.
find in der mitte hängt es stellenweise etwas durch, die letzten 2 tracks aber wieder stark: vor allem
what comes will come
soundtechnisch in ordnung, aber der vorgänger hat mir da und auch thematisch besser gefallen, obwohl er, wie schon erwähnt wurde, durchwachsener ist. finde auch, dass
smiling with no teeth die stärkeren höhepunkte hat - mit abstand.

the other black dog haben mich auf anhieb mehr gecatched als alles auf STRUGGLER. oder auch
same thing von den bonus-tracks:
hab gerade auch nochmal kurz durch smiling with no teeth geskipped, da ist schon echt viel durchwachsenes drauf, was man streichen könnte. wenn man 8 von den 20 tracks der deluxe-edition streichen würde, hätte man aber ein sehr starkes album.
mal schauen, STRUGGLER wird auf jeden fall noch öfter laufen die tage. vermutlich sehe ich das alles in 'ner woche wieder komplett anders lach
