Detective Vision Being Toned Down for Arkham Asylum 2
Rocksteady dev says making the mode so powerful was a "mistake."
"Detective Vision" was one of the most powerful weapons in Batman's arsenal in Arkham Asylum, enough so that some players went through the entire game without turning the mode off. That won't be the case for the sequel though.
At a talk during the Brighton, UK-based Develop conference, art director David Hego joked that he would want to "cry a little bit" whenever he heard that players were going through the entire game in Detective Mode(via GameSpot).
Detective Vision gave Batman a major advantage over his foes, but also obscured the carefully developed art style, he said.
"It was a gameplay decision to make detective vision so strong... we're going to try not to do that mistake again," Hego said.
In Arkham Asylum, Detective Vision functions like night-vision goggles, making it easy for a player to find their way in the dark. It also lists enemy weaknesses and highlights things like destructable walls.
Going forward though, Hego said that Rocksteady would "make it more like augmented reality."
