Handlung von Dunkirk
Der Zweiten Weltkrieg ist ausgebrochen: Als Hitlers Streitmacht im Mai 1940 seinen Feldzug nach Westen antritt und in die Benelux-Staaten einfällt, müssen die überraschten Soldaten Frankreichs und Großbritanniens den Rückzug antreten. Doch tausende alliierte Kämpfer - Briten, Franzosen, Belgier und Niederländer - werden nahe der nordfranzösischen Küsten-Ortschaft Dünkirchen (im Englischen: Dunkirk) eingeschlossen. Die Chancen, diese Soldaten noch zu retten, stufen die Befehlshaber als äußerst gering ein.
